From December 4-7 we observed Rohatsu Sesshin commemorating the enlightenment of Shakyamuni Buddha. Our focus during the retreat was embodying Noble Silence in all its forms, through body, speech, and mind.
A huge thank you to all who joined us both in-person and online! Sangha members joined not only from Albuquerque but also Las Cruces, Santa Fe, and the states of Arizona, Colorado, and Washington.
The weekend concluded with Sanbo Tokudo where sangha member Lisbeth Choku Carlisle took refuge in the Three Treasures and formally committed to living the Buddha Way. Choku is a gifted bead artist and gifted the sangha a wonderful beaded Buddha.
On Sunday, July 20, 2025 the sangha gathered to witness the Transmission of Light Ceremony where Kathryn Shukke Shin Hilbert Roshi transmitted the Dharma and entrusted the continuation of the lineage to Derek Shindo Villanueva Roshi.
On Sunday, September 25, 2022 John Kajo Brinduse received the Sixteen Bodhisattva Precepts formally committing to the Bodhisattva Way.
Birth of the historical buddha is commemorated on April 8. The sangha gathered for a half-day sit to celebrate this very special event!
Renovations have started in the new space for the zendo. Years of dust and wear and tear as a wood shop are being transformed into a new space for zazen. Work should be finished by the time it's safe for us to once again practice in person. Stay posted for new photo updates!
